Many older steel structures,
such as water tanks, bridges, pipelines, spillway
gates etc that were built and painted before 1970s
are coated with hazardous coatings such as lead-based
paint, coal tar linings and chromium-coating primers.
This usually involves performing the coating disturbance
inside fully ventilated containment systems that
are operated under negative pressure so that dust
and contaminates are not able to be released. At
the same time, the workers involved in removing
and collecting these materials need to be adequately
protected and specially trained.
This is a challenge that RMP have risen to over
the last five years, in becoming one of only a few
selected companies in Australia that holds a PCCP
(Painting Contractor Certification Program) Accreditation
to Class 5 which allows a company to remove and
correctly dispose of hazardous coating materials.
RMP are the best people
to talk to in relations to the safe removal or repair
of hazardous coating.
